ABSTRACT

Banking activities provides an essential lubricant for the 'wheel' of economic activity and, the faster rate of growth envisaged in the economy the more the facilities required from the banking industry.
Through the mobilisation of funds from surplus sector and dispensation of credit to the deficit sector, the banks transfer resources from current consumption to the creation of the plant, equipment and raw materials for production. 
By providing the means of production for those who otherwise would not have been able to get such opportunity, banks, thus, make tremendous
contribution to economic growth and development.
 While it is difficult to measure quantitatively, the contributions of banking institutions to economic development the growth in their operations as represented by deposits mobilised and credit disbursed over time, gives a reasonable indication of their contribution. Secondly, the indigineous bank and the rural banking scheme provides the economy with a good net work of banking services that enlarge banks contribution to the country's economic growth and development.
 This study specifically would research into how Lion Bank Nigeria PLC manage it funds. It will look into the various ways on means it secure it funds and the manner it apply the funds into various uses. It is hoped that by the end of the research study, commercial Banks generally and Lion Bank specifically would take appropriate steps in reframing their policy regarding the management of there funds for efficiency and effectiveness, and for the overall economy growth and development
