ABSTRACT
The Swift simulative formability test was employed. in this research work for the assessment of some locally produced vegetable oils viz: Palm oil, Palm Kernel oil, Cottonseed oil and Groundnut oil as lubricants in deep drawing operations. The assessment of these local oils was based on Swift test parameters; the limiting drawing ratio and the maximum drawing load. The higher the limiting drawing ratio, the better the lubricant. Also, the lower the maximum drawing load, the better the lubricant. Two cold rolled low carbon steels namely Galvanized Mild Steel and Plain Carbon Steel were deep drawn. The effect of material thickness variation on the performance of each of the lubricating oils was investigated in relation to a particular tool geometry. The total geometry employed for each set of lubrication condition was varied using punches of different profile radius. The Swift test parameters obtained under each set of lubrication condition of these local oils were then compared with those obtained using the widely used high grade industrial lubricant E.P. 14O oil, and Paraffin oil as a lower standard for comparison. The newly developed Kaftanoglu formability test in deep drawing operation for the estimation of the limiting.
