ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate and quantify the effect of irrigation on annual recharge at the Kano project area of Kano river Project. The soil moisture deficit model was used in estimating the recharge and its sensitivity to data and model parameters was investigated. The mean annual recharge for the whole area was estimated at 101.1 mm. In the irrigated areas, the mean annual recharge was 262.1 mm, out of which an average 17 2.6 mm comes from irrigation. The sensitivity analysis has shown the model to be sensitive to variations in rainfall and potential evapotranspiration.
