ABSTRACT
Massive construction of dwellings is one of both the federal and Niger State Governments priorities and its being promoted positively. With the siting of the new federal capital ABUJA at the door steps of Niger State and the availability of ceramic raw materials within the State especially around Suleja the former Abuja (Abuja pottery is internationally known for its pottery wares because it was the only pottery Centre in Nigeria in olden times), concept of total ceramic project is highly desirable. Apart from improving the living standard of our existing dwellings, high demand for ceramic tiles and sanitary wares can be expected following the above named programmes. This project when completed will also save large amount of money used or spent on importation of these products by utilizing Niger State Ceramic Raw Materials which has never been used on Industirial base. In fact, this is the first ceramic project and the second industrial project in the State. There are enough reserves of raw material deposits around where this industry is sited. Apart from Plaster of paris or gypsum which is to be imported all other raw materials are within a maximum distance of 68 km, even the glazes are locally found in Suleja Local Government Area. 2. It has always been in my mind right from my early years Architecture Department to contribute tremendously to the industrial development of Niger State and the whole Country in general. It is my wish also to make this country of ours self sufficient in moderm building materials so that living standard our existing dwellings can be improved and save the large amount of money spent on importation of these materials 3. The site for this industry is about 450m by 500m and is a located in Zone 'A! of Suleja Industrial Area. The site is a virgin land. In the first phase of this project about -J- of the land will be utilized while the remaining 1-4 is for the future expansion of only production halls as I have made adequate arrangement in the designing of Administrative block and workers facilities such that it can accomodate all the staff when the industry is in full production, Maintainance department could expand. The raw materials to be used in the industry include Clay, Feldspar, Limestone, Silica, Kaoline, Plaster of paris or gypsum, quartz and the glazing materials while the products include wall and floor tiles, lavatory pans, wash-hand basin pedestals, soap dishes, China sanitary wares, toilet reservoir tanks, squarting close and their cinters, shower trays and bid 4. It is my design concept to treat industrial design problems with utmost concern and give consideration to both the users the machines. I do hope that the solutions to these problems particular emphasis on my project and the knowledte I acquire during my stay in Architecture Department will be of great importance to me in the role I am to play as an Architect in practice. To conclude, I also hope this project of mine is a step forward in the right direction as far as my Architectural ideologies are concerned, as it has been my wish to become an Industrial Architect during my professional practice.
