ABSTRACT
The Niger Delta is amongst least well served in the Country. Successive governments have exploited the natural wealth of the Delta but put very little back in terms of infrastructure and service. Over recent years, the natural environment has been seriously damaged by mineral extraction and deforestation the latter due in large measure to oil companies opening up virgin land for resource extraction and steady incursion of people seeking land for cropping. Other threats of people's livelihood including oil spillage and damage to waterways and riverbanks through dredging and canalisation that indirectly affect fishing in the region. This situation have created the persistent violent in the region. Niger Delta Development Commission has been commission to carter for development of the region. The existing office building was design without consideration the socio-culture of the people in the region. This thesis attempted to create a design in response to the challenge of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) base on changing socio-cultural demand. In the quest to resolve changing socio-cultural demands and development of the people, this thesis is thus to provide an ideal Architectural solution a centre for Administration and Research to NDDC. The Research will be concern with environmental and ecological research problems and also train people that will in turn train the community's youth and reorient them. The commission thus, becomes an idea of how Architecture could help promote unity, identity and sustainable development in Niger Delta. This design thesis has been executed in two major parts VIZ: i. The thesis reports ii. The architectural design proposalThe documentation research or thesis report enables the author analyse, synthesize proposal of the architectural design.
