ABSTRACT
The research was experimentally done to make an exposition of Olele dance by translating Olele rhythmic dance movements into forms in painting. The inspiration taken from Olele dance, an aspect of Igala ethnic culture enabled the researcher to create illusion of Olele dance movements within the forms. The problem of the study was to make an exposition of the Olele dance in a painterly form. Literature and works that were relevant to this study were reviewed and the methodology was studio based. The data which consisted of photographs and sketches were transformed into paintings under two main stages, exploratory and developmental stages. The developmental stage was further divided into partial fusion and total fusion based on set objectives. The study revealed that motion can be created on the picture plane by the arrangement of compositional elements. It also revealed that the dissolution of forms performing the Olele dance brought about a new vista of expression. It was recommended that government should reintroduce indigenous cultural dance in school curriculum to stimulate creativity in students.
