ABSTRAC T

This work focuses on the content analysis of the punch and sun Newspapers reportage of crime in Nigeria

. The researcher made use of content analysis, while simple random sampling was used to select 24 editions of the two newspapers which amounted to 48 editions as the sample size, for the period of three months of this study. In chapter four of the study, the researcher used coding sheet which examined the names of the newspapers, names of the newspapers includes the punch newspaper and sun newspaper and how it was carried out, the processes includes the contents on the crime in the selected Nigeria newspaper, the frequency used shows the period of work done, which includes the March, the Punch newspaper is 33 (74%), the Sun 24(50%), the coding frequency of table 1 which is the coverage of crime in selected newspapers, which shows that in April The punch newspaper reported 15(10%) of crime in the society, while The Sun newspaper shows 10(15%). The findings show that mass media in crime communication and the importance of awareness in all areas of crime has be established in extent literature. Also, the study sought to examine the coverage of crime by two Nigeria newspapers in the year 2022 and ascertain the level of awareness about crime in Nigeria. The researcher recommended that Nigerian press should live up to their news reportage in carrying or publishing more of feature and opinion articles on salient issues as this rural safety care delivery.
