ABSTRACT
Governments all over the world in recent years have come to realize that tourism industry is one way through which it can earn its much-needed foreign exchange. We are in a period of economic depression and as such the country needs additional sources of revenue aside petroleum and other export products.A tourist is defined as any person visiting a country or place other than that in whichhe usually resides, for a period of at least twenty - four hours, this includes personstravelling for pleasure, meeting, domestic reasons, sports etc. The journey and stay of tourist give rise to a demand for wide range of service which include accommodation, transport, catering and generally, a relaxed atmosphere. Kogi state was created in 1991 with its capital as Lokoja, before this period, more than half of the population lived in rural towns, but industrialization and urbanization have caused the mass movement to the state capital and as such the need for leisure and recreational activities are on the increase, hence the need for the development of its tourism since the urban dwellers need to refreshen his memory, relax and develop his mind. As the existing tourist locations are sufficient to merit the development of a resort centre. This project proposes confluence holiday resort located 4km away from Lokoja town and along the river Niger, to accommodate tourist and provide auxiliary facilities. The resort is designed to take care of state and federal requirement of tourism. It is in the background of the above that a research on confluence holiday resort Lokoja is undertaken with a view of creating a well landscaped and attractive resort which will stimulate both domestic and foreign tourist.
