ABSTRACT
This study focused on Influence of Peer Informal Academic Interaction on Information Sharing Among Masters Students of Archives and Records Management in Ahamdu Bello University Zaria. Six research questions and six null hypotheses were used in the study. The research questions sought to find out the reasons that make Masters Students of Archives and Records Management in the Department of Library and Information Science, ABU, Zaria to engage in peer informal social interaction, the types of peer informal social interaction the students engage in, the methods through which these students engage in peer informal social interaction among others. The hypotheses used included; there is no significant difference among Masters Students ofArchives and Records Management in the Department of Library and Information science, ABU, on their reasons for engaging in peer informal social interaction, there is no significant difference among these students on the types of peer informal social interaction they engage in among other hypotheses. The research method adopted was survey, the population of the study comprised all Masters Students ofArchives and Records Management admitted in the Department of Library and Information Science ABU Zaria from 2010/2011 to 2014/2015, totaling (23) in number. Because the population was small, there was no sampling, the whole population was used. Structured questionnaire containing closed-ended questions was used. Data collected from the research questions were analysed using frequency and percentage. Null hypothesis one, three and six were tested using Kruskal Wallis H Test, null hypothesis two was tested using One-way Anova, null hypotheses four and five were tested using Chi-square independence. The findings of the study among others revealed that majority of Masters Students of Archives and Records Management in the Department of Library and Information Science, ABU, Zaria engaged in peer informal social interaction to share information about their understandings on a particular course in their field of studies, majority of these students engaged in peer tutoring as type of peer informal social interaction where information was shared among the students etc. The study concluded that peer informal social interaction has influence on the information sharing among these students, the students engaged in peer informal social interactions to share information among themselves. It was recommended among others that these students should stick to peer informal social interaction because through such interaction, information that can lead to better understanding of a particular course in their field of study is acquired.
